- January 181: During the Roman occupation of Slovakia, the region known as 178 and 179 was abandoned and eventually fell under no entity's control. This territory was under the rule of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius from 174 AD to 180 AD.
- October 180: In 177, the Quadi rebelled, followed soon by their neighbours, the Marcomanni. On 17 March 180, the emperor died at Vindobona (modern Vienna). His successor Commodus had little interest in pursuing the war. Against the advice of his senior generals, after negotiating a peace treaty with the Marcomanni and the Quadi, he left for Rome in early autumn 180.
